A community space for…everything

The little blue door at 511 E. Main Street in Montrose belies what’s behind it. Walking in the door at The Temple Events (The Temple) is like taking a step back in time. Rich hardwood wraps the baseboard and lines the floors, heavy drapes frame floor-to-ceiling windows, and a stained-glass oculus (the last original one in the nation) bathes the ballroom in golden light. It practically begs you to curl up beside the fireplace and sip on a cocktail.

The Temple is owned and operated by Crystal Combs and Jerrod Young. The couple fell in love with the building, a historic Masonic Temple built in 1911, when they attended a comedy event there last year. As local entrepreneurs, the pair snapped up the building when it went on the market last summer, and The Temple has been busy hosting community events ever since.

“The Temple is a gathering place for the community. It gives people a space to be with family and friends – even a reason to dress up,” said The Temple General Manager, Brette Huff. “I love giving people that space to connect. At our Mardi Gras event, one of the couples there told me it was the first time they’d danced together in 20 years!”

The Temple is available for every style of event. It has hosted weddings, concerts, costume parties, meetings, and even a yoga retreat. It also hosts its own community events, offering happy hour every Wednesday – Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and an array of live music concerts.

When asked what they would like the community to know about The Temple, Huff emphasized, “We are here! I’ve talked to many people who don’t even know this building exists. But we are truly here for the community. Come join us for happy hour, or give us a call for a tour.”

While The Temple’s architecture may be distinctly historical, its internet is anything but. In fact, with symmetrical 6 Gig fiber internet from Elevate, The Temple has the fastest internet service available on the Western Slope.

“It’s the best service in town. We live here too, and we know there might be cheaper services out there – but you end up paying for it in quality. Old buildings come with their fair share of glitches, but with Elevate, we don’t have to worry about any of that with our internet,” said Huff.
