Pea Green One Step Closer to High-Speed Internet
Design work begins in Elevate’s next grant area
March 22, 2022 – Today, Elevate Internet kicked off the first stage of construction of its recent Reconnect II Grant area. Elevate is working with the fiber engineering consulting firm, Vantage Point, to survey Delta-Montrose Electric Association’s (DMEA) electric grid in the grant area. The contractors will begin work southeast of Delta and move west and south through the Pea Green area.
The field survey work will take approximately eight weeks to complete, and contractors may be working long days and weekend shifts. The contractors will be assessing the electric grid in preparation for designing the new fiber network that will provide gigabit internet. In some cases, the contractors may need to access poles and equipment located on private property. Their vehicles will be marked with Elevate contractor labels.
This first stage is crucial to designing fiber services for the grant area, which will expand Elevate’s network another 261 miles to more than 2,400 rural homes and farms. In August 2021, DMEA and Elevate received a $10.5 million grant from the Rural Utilities Service to bring fiber to the rural countryside near Delta, Olathe, and Pea Green. Elevate anticipates it will take up to 18 months to build the entire fiber network and bring gigabit-speed internet to all homes within the grant zone.
